We often feature various acts of kindness from clubs on campus, but what about service projects outside of school? Junior Patrick Pillers is one of the numerous students taking part in service projects outside of Burroughs.
As part of his Eagle Scout project, Pillers decided to help the Almost Eden Rescue by building kennels for their dogs. For over a month, Pillers has been planning and helping to execute the project. With Almost Eden’s mission to find loving forever homes for dogs, the animal shelter was in desperate need of a place for the dogs to temporarily stay.
“I heard about the shelter from a friend of some of the board members,” said Pillers. “Then I met with them to find my project.”
In Eagle Scouts, a final project is done as a way to move a member up from a Life rank to an Eagle rank. Once completing the project, Pillers will be a full-fledged Eagle-ranked scout.
“My hope is that my project will help them to be functional so they can hold dogs full time and relieve the stress on the animal shelter,” Pillers explained.
Almost Eden has a need for dog kennels due to them moving to a new building over COVID-19. With building the dog kennels being the last part of the moving process, Almost Eden was happy to have Pillers build them.
Pillers is not the only one building the kennels, others have joined him in the act.
“My favorite part was to watch all the people come out to help the shelter,” said Pillers.
With the help from his friends and family, Pillers has completed building the shelter’s new dog kennels. Providing Almost Eden Rescue with a new, safe place for the dogs to temporarily stay before they get adopted.
