Students will have the chance to pick up their yearbooks early, collect signatures from friends, and celebrate the end of the school year at the annual Yearbook Extravaganza on Thursday, May 21.
The event will take place from 6-8 p.m. in the BHS Multi-purpose Room. Admission is $5, and students who purchased a yearbook will be able to receive their books before regular distribution begins. Books may also be purchased at that time.
The Yearbook Extravaganza gives students more than an early look at the book. This year, the staff has planned decorations and activities connected to the yearbook’s theme, “Beyond the Obvious,” giving students a chance to experience the theme beyond the pages of the book.
“I’m most looking forward to seeing our visions come to life with the inclusion of themed decorations and activities,” Yearbook Photo Editor Lucas Campbell-Goolsby said.
While many year-end activities focus on the senior class, the Extravaganza is a celebration for everyone.
“For the staff, it’s the moment when months of interviewing, photographing, designing, editing, selling, organizing, and crisis management finally become visible to everyone else,” Yearbook adviser Susan Burgess said. “For the school, it’s an opportunity to revisit the year with all their friends.”
In addition to yearbook signing, the event will include games and a cornhole tournament. A highlight will be a two-minute talent show, where students can compete for a free yearbook by showing off unexpected skills that connect to the “Beyond the Obvious” theme.
Staffmembers are obviously excited to get their hard work in the hands of the student body, but the event is also meaningful because it brings students together near the end of the school year.
“I think it is extra special because the event is about memories that have been made and new ones that will be made,” staff member Megan Ford said. “It is kind of the last look at high school for a year before many students graduate or go on break.”
Students who have not yet purchased a yearbook will still be able to buy one with cash at the Extravaganza. Students who cannot attend the signing party may pick up their yearbooks in C10 beginning Friday, May 22, during non-instructional time.
The yearbook staff hopes students will attend the event, celebrate the completed book, and take part in one of the final shared experiences of the school year.
