- The first African slaves arrived in what would now be the present-day United States on August 9, 1526, when they were brought by Lucas Vasquez de Ayllon along with 600 colonists to start a colony.
- The 13th amendment was officially passed in 1865.
- On June 19, 1865, which is now known as Juneteenth, Major General Gordan Granger landed at Galveston, Texas to free the last slaves.
- Black Americans were still denied rights into the 20th century.
- On December 1, 1955, Rosa Parks took a stand and the Civil Rights movement took flight.
