Playing collegiate basketball is a goal many strive to achieve but few accomplish, as less than 7% of women basketball players continue on past high school.
Savannah and Gracelynn Rowland will be part of that 7% as they help make history at the new Cerro Coso Community College women’s basketball team.
Savannah and Gracelynn Rowland had many offers ranging from D3 to D1 before ultimately deciding to commit to Cerro Coso Community College.
With the Burroughs basketball season behind them, both sisters are ready to hang up their Burroughs green and wear Cerro Coso’s blue and grey jersey next season as Coyotes.
“I am very excited for them,” said former girl’s basketball coach Laura Larson, who coached the sisters until this year. “This is a great opportunity to help grow a new program. They are both extremely passionate about the game and they will bring that to their new team. I am excited to be able to continue to watch them in person.”
The Cerro Coso women’s basketball team is making its return after being absent for over a decade. The team will join the Men’s Basketball team in the Inland Empire Athletic Conference.
For the Rowland twins, Cerro Coso was an excellent choice: the coaching style, the culture the program is establishing, and the goals the coach holds for them and the program helped them reach their decision. With a new program comes the chance to build, prosper, and create history.
“My expectations for the season are to come out strong and competitive as a team and have the same drive to win!” said Gracelynn. “I believe that I can bring energy and good culture to the program.”
With new talent coming in from across the United States, Coso looks forward to having a great season with the Ridgecrest-native Rowlands leading the way.
“I feel like I can bring energy and competitiveness to the team as well as a family feeling, being one of the locals on the team,” said Savannah. “This season may be difficult but definitely a season for building character.”
Savannah and Gracelynn agree that their goal is to bring home a conference championship and make waves in women’s basketball — and their loyal fans will be there to watch them in action!
