After their season opener in Apple Valley, the veteran members of the Burroughs trap shooting team were looking to improve. Hinkley gave that opportunity to them.
All six shooters from the previous shoot in Apple Valley attended along with sophomore Rayne Allan, a veteran of the team who had not attended Apple Valley for sports reasons. Allan managed to set her season baseline in Hinkley.
Two shooters improved from the previous match, and everyone else remained around the same range of scores. Ultimately, it felt more like a competition of focus and patience.
“I have grown a lot since last year,” said sophomore JP Schneiter. “But I still need to improve and get better with fundamentals.”
The two shooters in the Novice division, sophomore Elijah Diaz and junior Brodey Zade, placed 2nd and 3rd respectively, both tying with 62 total points. Diaz had the higher handicap score, allowing him to rank higher.
“My goals for the next shoot are to move up from Novice, shoot more accurately, and place [in the] top three,” said Diaz.
