After weeks of creepy posters and hush-hush secrecy, the BHS Drama Department is ready to reveal the mystery behind its fall production, which begins its two-weekend run tonight at the Parker Performing Arts Centre.
Until only recently, even the name of the play — “Trap” — had not been revealed, as Drama Teacher Eileen Poole and her cast have attempted to keep the play’s many twists and turns under wraps to ensure a fitting surprise for the October spooky season.
Performing in the play will be Kiana Arechiga, Danielle Vander Werf, Salem Edwards, Paige Ratliff, Liliana Padilla, Olive Patterson, William Baker, Khloe Olson, Murolo Patchin, Emily Barrett, Briona Stewart, Brooklyn Gillson, Tristyn Odom, Dain Johnson, Apiew Thich, Joshua Rivera, Amalie Gilham, Teresa Germann-Loaiza, and Chloe Harrell.
Tech crew includes Irma Lopez, stage manager; Vincent Ruprecht, lights; Lillian St. Louis and Kayden Garcia, sound; and Aaron Quinley Wahl, “go-to techie.” Poole said lighting and sound are integral to the plot, and her crews came through!
The play’s flyer cautions that the production contains frightening scenes not appropriate for children under 10, and the cast and crew are eager to see the audience reactions.
The play represents weeks of hard work by everyone involved, and they are eager to finally shine the stagelights on their efforts.
Freshman Khloe Olson said when she first auditioned, she was nervous but hopeful. Her favorite line is “It’s a high school play,” which might give a hint of the play’s content.
Sophomore Salem Edwards said when they first auditioned they felt like they had failed, but now they are very excited and hope to do their best for the audience.
Senior Emily Barrett said she feels she has learned a lot, by preparing and learning to be more in character. She says she is excited to act out all of her characters.
Tickets cost $10. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for a 7 p.m. curtain. If you can’t make this week’s shows because you are preparing for Halloween, don’t worry, you can still see it on Nov. 3 or 4.
But remember — don’t tell the secret!
