As a new school year begins, the athletic office enters a new era with a brand new athletic director. Luckily, we had the amazing chance to interview Coach Kelli Sarrett, the new Burroughs High School Athletic Director.
Sarrett’s love for sports shines through when describing her vision for the athletic program.
“My goal is to make sure all our athletic programs have what they need to be successful and to support athletes, coaches, and staff in maintaining an athletics program that we can all be proud to be a part of,” said Sarrett.
Academia is very important here at Burroughs. Sarrett plans to continue supporting student athletes in a variety of different ways.
“Our athletics office is always open for support to all our athletes,” said Sarrett. “Academics is always a priority. I would encourage students to take advantage of our academic learning lounge (ALL) for extra assistance.”
Sarrett wants to foster a strong community among Burroughs athletes, making it very clear that student athletes will have all the resources they need to succeed on or off the field or court.
“My hope is to promote a climate where athletes support each other and the motivation comes from each other as they strive to be successful in their sport,” said Sarrett.
Coach Sarrett is optimistic about engaging the community more with our Burroughs teams.
“Any team of Burros is extremely loved by Ridgecrest,” said Sarrett.
Building relationships with businesses and the community is one of the many important aspects of being a burro. Sarrett has many ideas on how to strengthen these bonds.
“[I] would love to bring back the Burros Buddies,” said Sarrett. “We already have some of our teams that are active in the community but would like to see all our teams get involved. Our community is so supportive of all our teams.”
Overall, Coach Sarrett will be an amazing athletic director and a great addition to the Burroughs staff. Her vision will lead the sports program into an exciting era!
