New Fungi Poses a Possibility to Zombie Apocalypse

Are you ready for the zombie apocalypse? Or more like a fungal-infected people apocalypse? Well don’t worry, you don’t have to prepare- yet.

In early March, The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued a warning to the public about a new wide-spreading fungal infection caused by a fungus called “Candida Auris”. The infection has been creeping up on us for the past few years, and within the past year, 359 cases have been reported in California alone.

Currently the infection isn’t affecting many people, but 1 in 3 of the people who are infected by the Candida Auris suffer its demise. Thankfully, the CDC has stated that there hasn’t been a huge enough uptick in the amount of cases to announce a national state of emergency.

So could there be a fungal-infected zombie apocalypse? The answer is no, probably not. Still, the public should raise awareness and support to finding a drug to take down this fungus.
