If you’re looking to learn more about Ridgecrest and Death Valley, the local Welcome Center is the perfect place to go! The Welcome Center had its grand opening on Nov. 6, 2021 after delayed plans due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Located on 880 N China Lake Blvd, it features a cool gift shop that includes items related to Ridgecrest and California, virtual tours of the petroglyphs and Death Valley, old and popular western films that were filmed locally, brochures, and a display of prehistoric camels of America.
Manager Jennifer Hammon is excited that the Ridgecrest Area Convention and Visitors Bureau (RACVB) was finally able to bring a Welcome Center to town.
“The RACVB is all about promoting our area, tourism around the area, and since there are other branches, they get to advertise for our community!” said Hammon.
The TV and Film exhibit features projects filmed in Death Valley, Lone Pine, Red Rock Canyon, and surrounding areas. QR codes can link to location maps that include the sites for Rihanna and Lady Gaga music videos, Top Gun: Maverick, Iron Man, Star Trek, Star Wars, Jurassic Park, Westworld, and Agents of Shield. In addition, video presentations will focus on sci-fi locations that attract productions due to California’s distinct landscape.
Because Ridgecrest is now part of the Visit California branch, millions of Californians will be able to learn more about the small community, which will hopefully benefit the local economy for small businesses.
The California Welcome Center will be open seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and until 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. It’s an exciting place to visit and learn more about what many may consider their hometown!
