FOR Advisor Shari Rosenberg, junior Elijah Rosal, junior Keith Cenas, and junior Mahnoor Ahmad hand off the truckload of winter wear to Salvation Army Corps. Lt. Chris Noble.

The annual Friends of Rachel Winter Coat Drive is once again a success.

According to Advisor Shari Rosenberg, the drive collected over 250 items, with Science Teacher Melanie Branson’s sixth-period class leading the effort with 121 items.  This is the third or fourth year that one of Branson’s classes has seized the victory.

“I appreciate your support and your enthusiasm for the coat drive,” said Rosenberg in an email to Burroughs staff. “The Salvation Army was very impressed by the over 250 items we collected.   You did make a difference.”

Friends of Rachel Club President Mahnoor Ahmad echoed Rosenberg’s enthusiasm.

“It was so awesome to see the numerous piles of coats ready to take to the Salvation Army!” said Ahmad. “The coat drive was very successful this year, and I really loved how some teachers made it a competition for students because not only was it motivating, but it encourages them to do something good for the community at the same time.”

Collected items included coats, jackets, sweatshirts, sweaters, gloves, hats, and other cold-weather gear.
