Gigi Cox (Special Education)

What is your educational background?

I graduated from high school in Tennessee, got an associate of arts degree, then joined the Navy. While on active duty I earned my bachelor’s in Historical and Political Studies with a minor in English from Chaminade University of Honolulu. I’m currently working on my master’s in Inspired Teaching and Learning with National University.

What are you looking forward to?

EVERYTHING! I’m excited that I FINALLY HAVE MY OWN CLASSROOM! I LOVED subbing for all those years, but I’m happy to finally have a home. My students are AWESOME! Many of them I’ve had throughout the years and I even have some of the same students graduating this year that I had my first year teaching at Monroe!

What do you do for fun?

Riding my bike, playing Mario Kart with my kids (zelda without), I’m an avid reader, and I like random art projects!

What is your favorite book and/or movie?

Movie: “Wizard of Oz” (1930 edition — the first technicolor movie ever made), and “WW84.”
Books: “A Tree Grows in Brooklyn” by Betty Smith and anything written by Phillipa Gregory.

What would surprise your students to know about you?

I was briefly in a PBS documentary about my deployment on the USS Nimitz. It’s called “Carrier.”
