Burroughs celebrated its standout senior athletes with an awards ceremony on Tuesday, April 30.
Athletic Director Doug Hayes presented awards to 20 seniors across all sports.
Sprinter Jayani Croos-Peterson, who will be competing at CIF this Saturday in Track, was honored as Burroughs’ Outstanding Senior Athlete. Her name will be enshrined with her predecessors’ on a banner in the gym.
“I was honestly speechless to have been awarded this momentous achievement,” said Croos-Peterson. “It’s an amazing feeling to know all my hard work and dedication have been recognized. I’m very excited to be on the banner!”
The CIF Student Athletes of the Year are Andrew Bui (XC and Swim) and Sarina Khara (Girls Tennis).
MRL Outstanding Senior Athletes are Taylor Nagels (Track & Field), Gracelynn Rowland (Basketball), Brianna Tejeda (Soccer), Joseph Buchan (Football and Track & Field), Blake Freese (Baseball) and Riley Markota (Soccer).
The Citrus Belt Athletes of the Year are Savannah Rowland (Basketball) and Digby Anderson (XC and Boys Tennis).
Army Scholar Athletes of the Year are Natalie Ponce (Volleyball) and Chasen Scott (Baseball).
U.S. Marine Corps Athlete of the Year is Connor Hill (Soccer).
Six students received awards for Athletic Achievement and will have their pictures added to a display in the Burroughs Athletic Office. The students include Brayden Green (Wrestling), K’Mani Ross (Football and Track & Field), David Villicana (Golf), Sadie Cox (Basketball), Sophia Sy Qui (Tennis) and Emily Workman (Tennis).
