The classic “Charlotte’s Web” is coming to the Parker Performing Arts Center.
On Apr. 5, 6, 12, and 13, the Burroughs High School Drama Department will present the timeless tale of barn spider Charlotte and livestock pig Wilbur.
Drama director and English teacher Eileen Poole is excited to announce the play, as the cast and crew have been working steadily after school and on weekends in preparation for opening night.
According to Poole, “Charlotte’s Web” tells the coming-of-age story of a young girl and her friendship with a spider. Poole believes the story teaches important life lessons and is confident the play will convey that sense of importance to the audience.
“If you come see the play, you will understand how significant and iconic it is,” said Poole.
The cast members are also ready to show off their hard work.
“The play is really fun and lively,” said Emily Barrett, who plays farmer Homer Zuckerman, the play’s antagonist. “The actors are fun to work with and our Wilbur is probably the best.”
While the cast is filled with animal characters, Barrett enjoys her role.
“Being one of the humans is great,” said Barrett. “I love the country vibes and I get to be on stage a lot.”
Murolo Patchin plays Wilbur, who spends the play trying to not become bacon.
“Rehearsal is the part of the day that I always look forward to the most!” said Patchin. “Getting to meet new friends and practice with them every day is the most amazing feeling. Rehearsal may be tiring, but I will never feel tired of the human connection I get to experience on stage.”
Practices and set construction have meant a lot of time for everyone involved, which will translate into a captivating experience for the audience.
“Considering that we have had to stay at school for ten hours for ten weeks in preparation for the play, there has definitely been a lot of commitment,” said freshman Brooklyn Gillson, a cast member for the Spring Play.
On April 13, the performance will be a matinee, with doors opening at 1:30 p.m. for a 2 p.m. curtain. After the performance, audience members will have a chance to go on stage and meet the cast.
Excluding the afternoon showing, the doors will open at 6:30 p.m. for a 7 p.m. curtain. Tickets cost $10 and will be available from a cast member or at the door.
