Do you enjoy writing, journalism, photography, art, and video making? Are you looking for a place where you can pursue these hobbies? Or do you enjoy keeping up with our school’s sports teams? What about being more involved with school clubs and activities?
If you can answer one of these questions or all of them, join Newswriting in the mornings for the upcoming school year!
From the lively chaos of distributing articles to the calm mornings with a waffle, you are sure to enjoy your time in Newswriting.
Newswriting is a great place for students to display their creativity. From writing opinion articles to taking pictures of student activities, students can participate in many forms of journalistic expression.
Current students enjoy the class!
“Newswriting is a fun class!” said sophomore Emaan Ahmad. “I like being able to write articles to keep the school updated.”
Even if you do not know how to write an article, Newswriting has got you covered! In class, you will learn how to write and edit articles about current events, pop culture, sports, and more before they are published online or in print.
Students will also get the chance to learn how to format pages and interview others.
Along with Newswriting’s school print edition, our articles are also published in the Daily Independent every week. Allowing your work to be published not only to your peers but also to the Ridgecrest community.
Newswriting also has opportunities for students whose strengths do not lie in writing. The class is actively looking for people interested in podcasting, videography, photography, and drawing.
Starting next year, Newswriting will offer both an Honors and CP class option. Students participating in the Honors program will be given more responsibilities that will challenge them in their writing and photography skills.
