Despite the strong winds, the Burroughs trap shooting team went out to Inyokern on March 2 to compete at the third Five-Star event of the year.
Hosted at the range on Clodts Road in Inyokern, the team managed to get a more favorable version of the wind — it was coming from behind them — and came out with decent scores all around.
“I feel that the team performance was great… but the wind was a big player on how we did,” said sophomore Ryan Smith.
Other teammates did not share the same sense of careful optimism, however.
“I know we could all do better, but the wind was horrible and set us back,” said sophomore Coby Beltramo. Beltramo also brought up how he wished to see more placement from the team, and place higher in the team’s conference for the high school league.
The wind, and the mild bit of rain that occasionally showed up, affected where targets were directed, oftentimes bringing them up higher or shifted slightly from normal.
Despite the adverse weather, two shooters placed in their divisions. Anthony Saavedra, a freshman, managed to pick up second place in the Pro division, while Brodey Zade placed third once again in the Novice division after a tiebreaker round to determine second place.
