Have you ever wondered what dancing and singing in the spotlight is like? Or maybe what it’s like to be cheering from behind the curtains?
Burroughs’ Introduction to Musical Theater class, taught in F9, is your answer.
Introduction to Musical Theater class shows students what producing a musical, a performance of songs that tell a story, is like. From the actual performance, such as dancing and singing, to production like tech, directing, leadership, and even the historical influence of the art.
“I’m hoping that [this] will open up to a broader genre to people,” said Music Arts teacher Amber Petersen.
With this class back into the elective curriculum, Petersen also plans to bring back Burroughs’ old tradition of having a musical on campus every other year. With the support of the class, she hopes more people will consider auditioning as well as watching the performance.
As of now, even with the small class size, Petersen believes that they are improving in all aspects quickly. This could be because of the vast topics that are introduced, found passion, or curiosity in the area.
Musical art is a genre of many components that involve both natural and learned skills. Why not try to discover something new about the world of musical passion, and yourself?
