With a new season around the corner, the Lady Burros are looking to improve their record and qualify for CIF. New Head Coach Peter Marvin, along with new Assistant Coaches Howard Gamble and Aileen Ponce, are working with the team to improve their game and prepare to crush the competition.
After a tough pre-season with lots of conditioning, the Lady Burros are ready to play some games and see their hard work pay off.
“I am feeling very optimistic about the season,” said Marvin. “I am a little overwhelmed by all the new duties I gained when I became head coach, but I am looking forward to the challenge.”
As the new Head Coach, Marvin has implemented stricter rules and conditioning for the players to make the team more athletic and ready to face their challenging opponents. Being able to play strong for the whole 90 minutes can be the difference between winning and losing.
“I think after COVID, we all got a little used to the relaxed rules,” said Marvin. “It is time to get back to where we were before the shutdown.”
The team made personal and group goals to improve upon during the upcoming season. Setting goals gives the team milestones to work toward. Some players set goals of getting a certain mile time and others set goals of getting 30 juggles or improving their shot.
“My hope this season is for the team to build and grow together, get some wins, and achieve all our goals as a team,” said Team Captain senior Brianna Tejeda.
Tejeda has been a strong captain since her freshman year, helping her teammates whenever she can and providing consistent leadership.
“I hope to use my position to push the girls to their best and help them attain new skills and goals, while also helping them on and off the field,” said Tejeda.
This is shaping up to be an exciting season for Lady Burros soccer. Be sure to catch a game!
The Lady Burros return from Thanksgiving Break with a home game on Nov. 29 against Tehachapi. Varsity at 4:30 PM and JV at 3 PM.
