With Thanksgiving fast approaching, we are all starting to look forward to good food, time with family and friends, cool weather, and … 5ks?
On Thanksgiving morning, Nov. 11, the Over the Hills Track Club is hosting their annual Turkey Trot.
The Turkey Trot follows a marked out-and-back course throughout the desert behind Cerro Coso Community College. The event is open to people of all ages, including children, and pets. Participants are welcome to walk or run the course.
On-site registration begins at 7:30 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day at the Cerro Coso Gym Parking Lot, though participants can also register early online. All participants are entered into a prize drawing. The race starts at 8:30 a.m. There is no race fee; however, a $5 entry donation per participant is suggested. The donated proceeds benefit the Burroughs Cross Country team.
“The Turkey Trot is the major fundraiser for BHS XC,” said Head Cross Country Coach Epraim Washburn. “It provides funds for overnight [cross country] meet, equipment, and uniforms.”
The Turkey Trot fundraiser has proved to be a successful venture for the Cross Country Team in the past, and they hope to raise even more money this year.
“We raised $3000 last year,” said Washburn. “Our goal is $3500 this year.”
The Turkey Trot has become a beloved tradition for many people.
“My favorite part of the Turkey Trot is seeing all the families and friends from the community getting together, socializing, and running together,” said Washburn. There is a fun and festive atmosphere.”
If you are looking for a fun Thanksgiving outing, consider participating in the Turkey Trot! You will benefit a local team, and may just find your next holiday tradition.
