On Nov. 1, the biannual blood drive sponsored by Houchin Blood Bank was held. A total of 36 juniors and seniors and six staff members participated in the drive.
ASB President senior Liliana Urbina was in charge of setting up and preparing for the blood drive. She couldn’t be happier with the results she received.
“It’s so amazing to see so many people wanting to help others,” said Urbina. “People enjoy donating because it’s a way to connect with their community in various ways.”
Every two seconds, someone is in need of blood. It is then left up to the rest of society to replenish the supply that is needed. Not only do blood donors save lives, but they also receive cardiovascular health benefits. It is a great way for students to get involved and help save someone’s life.
Senior Class President Brianna Tejeda sees a great significance in donating and encourages other students to do the same.
“If I can do something for people out there that need blood in order to stay alive, I’ll do it,” said Tejeda.
Many people’s lives are dependent on the blood that is available to them. The more people who donate, the fewer shortages there will be.
“It’s a great thing that as regular civilians we can do something so big for many people with these blood drives,” said Tejeda.
Donating is simple, fast, and very convenient. The donation time can take anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour, but can make a lifelong difference for someone else.
