After a decent last season, the Boys Basketball head into basketball season starting fresh with new coaches and additions to the team.
The Burros did well last season, almost making CIF. This season, their goal is to improve their overall record and make CIF. As the upcoming season grows closer, the excitement and anticipation can be felt in the air at Burroughs.
“I am feeling very optimistic about the upcoming season,” said new Head Coach Todd Rowland. “We have had a lot of personnel changes and a large departing senior class from last year. However, the new team is starting to build chemistry and play well together.”
As leadership is making a transition, there are no worries among the team.
Coach Rowland has a phenomenal record in basketball for both girls and boys basketball. Under his leadership and his assistant coaches, the Burros expect to thrive and make improvements from last year.
“Our goals for this year are to work hard, play fast, and stay competitive. As always, we would love to make the playoffs and achieve some success,” said Rowland. “This is a very talented group. We will see what the season brings.”
Burroughs roster has a fresh lineup, with over half the team being new faces. While this year’s team does look drastically different than before, it holds the potential to make an overall better program and season.
“The team is looking forward to being able to start the new season. They are eager to display their talent, speed, and athleticism,” said Rowland. “These are attributes which we feel will help us against teams which we believe will have a height and/or size advantage this season.”
This game plan for the Burros may pay off as they’re already expecting a height disadvantage but have found a way to work around it and put it to their advantage. With this, the Burros will strive for success and be ready for their upcoming season.
“This year we lost big guys and now we are just fast guards who can shoot the ball, so I’m looking forward to fast transitions and easy buckets, points from outside the paint,” said returning player, junior Geo Perez. “We also already have chemistry with the players so I’m looking forward to a good season.”
The Burros are gearing up for the Mira Monte tournament on Nov. 16-18. This tournament will be a stepping stone in preparing them for league. Their first home game will be Nov. 27 against Victor Valley at 6:00.
