After a phenomenal 22-23 season for the Lady Burros ending with a second-round exit in CIF, a new season begins and the Lady Burros look to make it past the second round with a new coaching staff and additions to the team.
Last season, Burroughs tied with Oak Hills for second place. This year, the Lady Burros look to become Mojave River League Champions as they once were in 2021. This goal is within sight as they head into pre-season.
“I am really excited for the upcoming season,” said new Head Coach Sidney Pollock. “We have tried several things this summer and have developed a plan going into the games for this season.”
Leadership has never been a problem in the Women’s Basketball Program, which will continue to stay strong as leadership is switching hands. Coach Pollock has already proved herself with the Lady Burros’ tournament win at Sports Academy, going 4-1.
“We have already been working on forming this season to fit our new team and new coaching staff,” said Pollock. “Working on new offenses, defenses, plays, and team chemistry has been a lot of work that the girls are now ready to implement this season.”
Along with the new head coach, the Burros add seven new players to their team, drastically changing the dynamic as well as holding promise for the new season.
Most notably, the Lady Burros add a new guard, Kayla Davenport, who brings a strong defense to the team. The new and returning players plan on dominating the court this upcoming season.
“The team itself has started being a lot more proactive in creating team activities and getting very excited to start off strong this season,” said Pollock.
The Burros will face some tough competition but is gearing up to persevere. Key to that mindset will be the new team captains, seniors Savannah and Gracelynn Rowland.
Talented players, Savannah and Gracelynn are poised to lead the team with their exceptional skills. Their readiness to take charge on the court is evident, making them invaluable assets to the team’s success.
“My hopes for the season are to win league and make it as far as we can in CIF,” said Savannah. “I want to use my position as captain to help my teammates grow in all aspects of the game, as well as off the court so they know how to handle difficult situations.”
The Lady Burros look forward to their first tournament on Nov. 13-14 and 17-18 at Upland. Their first home game will be on Nov. 29 against Tehachapi at 6:00. The theme will be White Out.
