In my opinion, the best part about holidays is the wait up to them. The actual holiday is typically one day, but the spirit can arise at any time. Why should it be restrained?
Humans want to reminisce and search for feelings that once made them feel good, and holidays are the ultimate feel-good.
The desire for a good Halloween movie, or some peppermint hot chocolate, or an Easter bunny decoration, is harmless. Why shouldn’t people be allowed to celebrate a holiday whenever they would like?
Stores stock up on pumpkin spice bread in July, and Christmas and Halloween decorations are in some stores year-round, So, to have to walk past all of that decor and ignore it because ‘it’s not the season’ or have to deny yourself of a spooky haunted house in April crushes the spirit.
While the month of the holiday puts it into full swing, all it takes is a bit of spirit (and some courage) to decorate your house however you’d like corresponding with whatever decorations you’d like. The discrimination is unnecessary and very negative for such a happy thing.
If you were to watch Hocus Pocus in February, would that make it not a good movie anymore since it’s not the season? What about Elf in June? Or the Nightmare Before Christmas in April? Even if you don’t agree that these are iconic movies in the first place, which is a claim that I’m sure a lot of people would find offensive, my point still stands.
People should be able to celebrate holidays at any time with no judgment, they are simply searching for the holiday feeling and that feeling should be attainable during any time of year.
