With girls tennis in full swing, they have been having a successful season up to date. Having won seven games and lost only two in the first half of their season, the girls continue to strive for victory.
Their home opener occurred on August 22 against the Desert Scorpions, winning 12-6.
The Hesperia Tournament was held on September 9. Burros took the win with a total of 14 points.
From their debut until September 19th, they kept their winning streak. After a hard fought game on September 21st against Apple Valley, they lost their first game 10-8.
Then on September 26, Burros went up against their biggest competitor, Serrano. They lost 12-6, but the girls had a positive mindset all around.
The three captains, seniors Shannon Kelly, Sophia Sy Qui, and Emily Workman, strive to lead their team the best they can.
As we move into the second half of the season, Kelly plans to continue her dedication to training.
“I push myself during practice and train with people who are better than me,” said Kelly. Though she does recognize how everyone prepares differently and no player trains the same.
The more improved players they have to compete against, the more distinct techniques are seen of how players play and different defense mechanisms are learned.
From their previous game on September 28, Kelly recognized how hard her team worked.
“The chances of winning are improving, we are all supporting one another, and the better everyone does, the more we connect together,” said Kelly.
Workman points out that while her teammates are determined to win, they also prioritize enjoyable practices.
“Our top priority is to have fun for the rest of the season and do our best to keep winning,” said Workman.
The girls have their ups and downs throughout the season, yet carry on with the love they have for the game.
“We want to enjoy the rest of the season and incorporate everything together,” said Sy Qui.
The girls predict a great rest of the season and continue to put their time and effort into each match.
Burroughs is set to play Hesperia on October 3 and Oak Hills on October 5.
