After a rocky last season, BHS football is ready to turn things back around with a promising new head coach and additions to their team.
“We have been feeling great about this upcoming season!” said new Head Coach Matthew Fulton. “The boys have been putting in a ton of work all off-season. Everyone is bought-in on the program and process, coaches and players.”
This past Friday, BHS hosted its first home game of the season, with our varsity football team coming just short of the Quartz Hill Royals, a solid team that has beaten multiple notable opponents, with the score being 21-6. Since then, our football program has been working hard to continue what they did well and improve on what they didn’t compared to last year.
“We never compare ourselves to any other team or year,” said Fulton. “We stay focused on ourselves to focus on building success for every athlete. We have high standards for our student-athletes and we hold them to those standards every day! We need to improve on everything; from tying our shoes to throwing touchdowns, success is creating many small victories each and every day.”
Besides bringing in a new Head Coach, the Burroughs also have some new faces on the fields. Some of the most notable are our new Quarterbacks Corban Williams and John McClaughlin who will be succeeding our previous Quarterback, Talon Mather, who transferred to a new school last year.
“Both guys are new to the position but bring a ton of energy and passion to the position,” said Fulton. “I am proud of their off-season work and look forward to their future success.”
Despite these exciting new additions and the confidence of fans and students, the Burros will be faced with some tough opponents throughout the year, both in and out of the Mojave River League.
“I honestly believe we play in one of the toughest leagues in Southern California,” said Fulton. “Every week in the Mojave River League is a tough game. Our pre-season schedule is also tough. Tehachapi and Barstow are stacked with Seniors and talent. They will be great match-ups.”
With so much new talent and potential, the Burros are prepared to face any opposition they are presented with and strive to get better and better each game.
