With the cheer season coming to life, the cheerleaders’ past summer has been all but boring. Their time was spent practicing everyday, doing multiple fundraisers, such as bake sales and car washes, and going to California Lutheran University for camp.
Cheer camp lasted four days, during which both the cheerleaders and coaches learned a tremendous amount.
Senior Melinda Bravo, one of the varsity cheer captains, feels it was the best camp she has ever attended.
“The environment was very engaging and everyone was so supportive of one another,” said Bravo.
From camp, everyone was brought together and able to learn more about each other and themselves.
The cheerleaders are all introduced to so much. They learn how to become a leader, establish new routines, build a relationship with their team, and have a lot of fun.
“You really get to know everyone and build a bond,” said senior Evelyn Martinez.
With an entirety of 300 girls from all around California attending the camp, they not only learn new skills, but also become more connected with everyone around them.
“You’re able to gain an understanding of the emotional, physical, and social parts of cheer,” said Head Coach Stacey Crow. After camp, Crow was able to see how much her girls grew.
The team learns one main cheer at camp, which is used at the end for the All-American tryouts.
This past spring, nine All-American girls got to go to London, and this upcoming year seventeen are traveling to Hawaii. The attending girls are all varsity members, but all different grade levels.
“Being an All-American is not just because you’re good, but because you know how to get the crowd involved and you’re motivating everyone,” said Bravo.
The girls can’t wait for their approaching season and what is ahead.
