This school year may feel more normal to some, but this year’s ASB class wants to make the year even more special for everyone.
On Friday, Aug. 11, the ASB hosted its first week Kickback, an annual event where students can play fun games, hang out with friends, and eat snacks and shaved ice.
“I felt that the Kickback went very well and it was a very smooth process,” said Sophomore Class President Audrey Robesky.
As a sophomore, Robesky helped plan out the Kickback, along with the other officers Mc- KayLynn Baird, Kayleen Garcia, and Kaydence Stewart.
ASB Advisor Laura Larson was pleased with the well-attended event.
“The Kickback went very well,” said Larsen. “ASB did a great job setting up and cleaning up. We had over 400 kids attend and everyone seemed to have a great time.”
Students, many of whom were already dressed up for that day’s “Aloha, My Name Is…” spirit day, competed in various tournaments, walked the track catching up with old friends, listened to music, and played football and volleyball.
With the Kickback now behind them, the ASB class has turned its attention to September’s fall rally.
Among those ASB students taking an active role in creating a welcoming campus community are the Class of 2027 officers, who expressed enthusiasm for their entry into Burroughs.
“I am very excited about starting my first year at Burroughs as part of ASB,” said Freshman Co-President Taylor Johnson. “You immediately are part of a spectacular community of kids and I am provided opportunities to get involved with my school body right away. I really hope to not only grow intrapersonally when it comes to confidence, responsibility, creativity, and leadership, but also interpersonally: being able to communicate with my ASB teammates and fellow freshmen to truly lead and represent the class of ‘27.”
Joining Johnson in the leadership role is Co-President Justin Abercrombie.
“I’m excited to see the difference between high school ASB and middle school ASB,” said Abercrombie.
Equally enthusiastic are those students on the other end of the spectrum, the senior class.
As the old guard of the school, the seniors are now getting ready to move on to college, employment, and their futures.
“I am genuinely so excited for my last year at Burroughs,” said Senior Class President Brianna Tejeda. “It’s definitely bittersweet but I am so excited to be a part of big things in my last year here with the people I love.”
The big focus for the juniors this year will be preparing for Prom.
“I’m definitely looking forward to Prom, just like all of the dances. I hope for a great turnout and a great time,” said Junior Class President Ryan Morrison. He is assisted by Jimmie Winder and Kaitlyn Klamt, making a group of three Junior Class Officers.
The excitement of the new school year and all of the events and spirit days is also a driving force as ASB brainstorms ideas for dances, floats, and activities.
This year’s ASB class is prepared for the challenges ahead and is collectively excited to be spending this year together.
Key dates upcoming on the activities calendar are the Fall Rally, Sept. 15; Club Day, Sept. 22; B Mountain Painting, Sept. 23.
Homecoming week activities will take place Oct. 10-14.
