Hot fudge cake is a delightfully decadent treat

Everyone knows that ice cream sundaes are the perfect dessert. The sweet ice cream blends perfectly with an array of toppings, from salty peanuts to caramel. However, sundae lovers everywhere can agree that adding a slice of this hot fudge cake to your list of toppings takes the traditional sundae to a whole new level!

Hot fudge cake stands somewhere in between a brownie and a lava cake. It has the rich, chocolatey flavor of a brownie, and the rich sauce of a lava cake. However, it is not to be mistaken for either beloved dessert. This cake stands out in its own unique way. Instead of undercooking it to create a molten sauce, you pour boiling water on top of the cake batter before it bakes.  Although it sounds odd, it works! Before pouring the water on top, you sprinkle a layer of sugar on top of the batter. As the cake bakes, the water and sugar mixture blends together and sinks to the bottom of the pan, creating a decadent chocolate sauce to accompany the cake.

You could eat the cake on its own, but we found it tasted best hot out of the oven with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Although the idea of boiling water on top of a cake batter sounds intimidating, bakers have nothing to fear! Both novices and experts will find this to be an enjoyable treat.

Overall, hot fudge cake is extremely easy to make. You can whip up the batter in under ten minutes, then you simply pop it in the oven and watch the magic happen! It’s especially interesting to watch the water turn into syrup as the cake bakes.

Hot fudge cake is the perfect treat for any occasion! Whether for a delicious party dessert, or simply as a way to spice up your ice cream sundaes, you will immediately fall in love with this cake. Once tried, it’s sure to become a staple in every recipe box!
