CSF hosts Dec. 4 canned food drive

Burroughs junior Emma Kimbler, senior ZJ Hoffman, and junior Mahnoor Ahmad stock up on canned goods for their CSF food drive.

California Scholarship Federation (CSF) is hosting a non-perishable food drive, with the intention of donating all items to the Salvation Army. Students are working together to meet at Pearson Park and will ask houses of that neighborhood for any donations they can provide. In addition, the community is invited to drive by and donate any non-perishable items or canned goods from 1-4 pm on Saturday, Dec. 4.

CSF President ZJ Hoffman, a senior, is looking forward to this service opportunity.

“The other CSF officers and I wanted to do an important service project to help better the community,” said Hoffman. “Hunger has been a big problem affecting our community and we believe having a canned food drive will benefit those who need additional help with meals.”

Some examples of non-perishable items are canned goods, dry goods such as powdered milk, pancake mix, hot and cold cereals, granulated sugar, and any goods that are dehydrated or won’t spoil easily.

Cases of COVID are rising, so in order to ensure safety and protection, CSF members are required to wear masks and gloves when they visit door-to-door. Club Advisor Dave Vigneault, the Burroughs head counselor, believed this is a great service project that the officers planned, so CSF wanted to make it possible for anyone to participate safely.

“I wanted to continue to do this event; however, I know a lot of members are planning to go on vacation during break COVID-free, so we don’t want to take that opportunity from them,” said Vigneault.

In addition to accepting non-perishable items, monetary donations can be made at the Red Kettle. This project will take place from 1-4 pm on Saturday, Dec. 4 at Pearson Park. Students and community members can reach out to [email protected] for more information.
