The Burroughs High School cross country season is heating up as both the boys’ and girls’ teams head into the second half of their season with both confidence and determination.
After a strong performance at the Clovis Invitational, senior and boys’ co-captain Silas Aberer said the team is regaining momentum after battling through injuries and illness earlier in the season. “The team’s win at Clovis was really a confidence booster,” Aberer said. “It shows we can put together a win on a difficult course. Because we’ll be running on the same course for the state meet, it also gives us some experience and data to look over when we prepare our strategy.”
For the girls’ team, senior and co-captain Kaydence Stewart said the focus remains on qualifying for the CIF prelims and beyond. “The girls’ team this year is so insanely committed and strong,” Stewart said. “Our goal right now is to make it past league finals to CIF prelims, and hopefully carry that momentum all the way to finals. We have a lot of competition this year, so it won’t be easy, but I’m confident we’ll be able to pull through.”
With the next league meet at Sultana just around the corner on October 16, both teams are working on strategies and pushing their limits. If their recent performances are any indication, Burroughs cross country is on pace for an exciting finish to the season.
