If you have ever been to a Burroughs home game, you know the student section is impossible to miss. It’s loud, chaotic, and full of school spirit. The section doesn’t just sit back and watch—they make sure every Burroughs athlete on the field knows that their school is with them.
Players say that the difference is real and noticeable.
“It keeps me motivated and helps keep my head up,” affirms junior Jayvarion (JJ) Prothro, who was on the field Friday during the Burros’ match against the Vikings as the crowd went wild.
“As an athlete, the BHS student section means everything,” senior Kanon Schiller says. “When the Burros are loud and having fun, it gives us extra energy and makes the game way more exciting. It feels like the whole school is behind us, and that kind of support really helps us play our best. We Bleed Green.”
Students say being in the home section feels more like being at a party than a sports match. Students chant, jump around, and come up with outfits to fit that night’s theme. At a big football home game, the energy coming from the student section almost shakes the stands.
“Being in the student section last Friday was very exciting,” recounted junior Sarah Suleman. “It was nice to see how happy and optimistic everyone seemed to be,” remembering the neon outfits students put together for the Neon Night theme.
And it’s not just the students who notice, either. Parents, teachers, and even visiting schools comment on how intense and spirited the Burros can be, which is something the student section takes pride in. They want other schools to know that if you come to play the Burros, you’ll hear about it from start to finish.
Our school traditions play a big role, too. “Bleeding Green” has become something students can share and use to unify them, helping younger fans feel like part of something bigger. Even when the team is not winning, the section doesn’t get quieter. If anything, they actually get louder!
The energy of the student section lifts everyone at the game. Athletes feel more motivated, and fans get to be part of moments that they’ll remember for years. The games go from simple home to become opportunities for the entire school to come together and have fun.
In the end, the student section isn’t only about sports. It’s about showing pride in being a Burro. It’s proof that the students at Burroughs show up for each other, and they do it in the loudest and craziest way possible.
