Burroughs ASB is the frontliner of all schoolwide events — from dances, spirit days, rallies, and more — that make everyone’s high school experience all the more memorable and enjoyable.
While the Class of 2029 officers are still becoming accustomed to the operation of high school ASB, they are optimistic for what the year holds in leadership and spirited schoolwide activities.
“The transition from Monroe ASB to Burroughs ASB was a little scary at first and I’m still getting used to it, but it’s a lot more fun because high school has more events,” said Freshman Co-President Maddy Bloudek. “I’m most excited to see how all the pep rallies will turn out.”
Following the success of the opening week Kickback, ASB’s sophomores are focusing on the King of Hearts (KOH) Dance in February, although they will throw their support behind all of ASB’s busy calendar.
“I am incredibly excited for all the events that come with dance weeks, especially HOCO,” said ASB Sophomore Class Vice President Cambria Rizzardini.
The ASB Junior Class officers have one of the most important activities to plan — Prom.
“We are super excited for when the time comes to reveal the theme,” said Junior Class President Taylor Johnson. “I am most looking forward to picking out the Prom decorations.”
Johnson is joined by Junior Class Vice President Dannika Nelson and Junior Class Secretary Quan Laskey.
“It’s been really fun working with the other juniors!” said Laskey. “We’ve had time to connect and get to know each other, especially at the float building.”
Homecoming week is always a sensational fan favorite. This year, HOCO events will fall from Oct.14-17.
While the hardworking cheerleaders put on the dance and football events, ASB puts on many of the other activities during Homecoming week.
On Oct. 14, campus clubs will host high-energy games in classrooms for student teams to crack a mystery code before “zombies” tag them in the Amazing Race.
On Oct. 15, boys and girls swap roles for Powderpuff, an iconic tradition at Burroughs in which the boys dazzle the crowd with their cheer routines and flamboyant outfits and the girls blaze through with intense football plays.
On Oct. 16, students are invited to the Engineering Building for a float-building party where they will pitch in to boost their respective graduating class in a class competition. Float decorators will have the opportunity to ride the finished product at the HOCO football game and coronation on Oct. 17.
Of course, ASB also spends a great amount of time planning rallies and spirit days, as well as popular activities like the Honor Roll and CAASPP achievement luncheons.
ASB Advisor Laura Larson is looking forward to a great year.
“The 25-26 ASB is a wonderfully talented group,” said Larson. They bring fun, excitement, creativity, and a lot of laughs. We can’t wait for everyone to experience all of our events this year.”
