The Lady Burros tennis team is gearing up for the new season, with a mix of new and returning players ready to work hard.
In his second season with the team, Coach Tommy Wooding is focused on building up the team physically and mentally.
“This season I want to do more conditioning for the girls,” said Wooding. “It’s also important for them to stay involved and build up team bonding, especially because tennis is played in pairs.”
After eight weeks of rigorous practice, new players are showing significant improvements, with most freshmen making the varsity team. The girls played their first match Aug. 20, falling to Lancaster in non-league competition.
“Right now we’re all a bit tense, but with enough practice and positivity we should do well this season,” said returning player Audrey Huyen, a junior.
“I’m really looking forward to seeing my skills improve and seeing how the team as a whole grows throughout the season,” said team co-captain Taylor Johnson.
Tennis team members include Jordyn Bodine, Emma Cravens, Abbigail Doser, Isabella Garcia, Honor Gathings, Maddie Hocker, Nayeli Lopez, Anko Luzinas, Giselle Medina, Hailey Ribultan, Addison Ribultan and K’Mora Shelton.
