The first week of school lasted only two days, but Burroughs ASB wrapped it up on an even sweeter note with the fifth annual kickback on Friday, Aug. 8.
Held on the football field from 7-9 p.m., the kickback offered a widespread back-to-school celebration for socializing and bonding with old and new friends in a not-so-restrictive setting.
“It is great to see the students just hanging out and having fun,” said ASB Advisor Laura Larson. “It’s low stakes and no pressure, and the students can pick and choose what they want to do.” Indeed, a variety of games such as giant Jenga, cornhole, Tetris Tumble, and a concentrated match of Connect Four made for a playful atmosphere on the football field.
The event was put on by the ASB sophomore class.
“It was great seeing people enjoying the games, purchasing snacks, and winning prizes, and I enjoyed seeing posts afterwards and hearing positive feedback,” said ASB Sophomore Class President Cambria Rizzardini.
Rizzardini said she was uncertain how many people would show up after only two days of school, but the popular event brought in over 400 students.
“The BHS Kickback is one of my favorite events of the school year,” said BHS Music Teacher Amber Petersen, who oversaw the Tetris Tumble game. “I enjoy watching the students interact with one another in a calm environment, with fun interactive games. The music, food, and wholesome engagement and interaction between different peer groups is awesome!”
