The Burroughs High School swim team wrapped up a strong rebuilding season, marked by major improvements and a promising future. With only six returning swimmers and a roster filled with newcomers, Assistant Coach Sarah Ford called the season “great,” showcasing the growth of the team.
Senior Josiah Smee led the team as captain, mentoring the younger swimmers while posting strong performances in his final season. The team faced tough competition against larger schools, but still secured solid finishes and celebrated two boys qualifying for CIF, with hopes for more after league finals on the first of May.
Though no school records have been broken yet, Ford praised the team’s grit, especially at the Mt. SAC Championship, where swimmers competed against over 1,900 athletes.
After years of challenges—such as the earthquakes, Covid disruptions, and a lack of a home pool—the partnership with the base has given the team a new life. “The word is getting out again,” Ford said, excited for a growing team next year.
With continued support from school staff and a young, hungry roster, Burroughs swim is ready to make waves in the seasons to come.
