On Friday, April 11, Burroughs students gathered for a new kind of spring event — Game Night. It was held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in place of the usual Blacklight Dance. Organized by ASB, the night offered something for everyone, from Nintendo Switch games and Just Dance, to card and board games, karaoke, and trivia.
Raffles added to the excitement, with gift cards for Baskin Robbins, Taco Bell, and Amazon given away to students at the end of the event. Students were encouraged to try out all of the possible games, as tickets to enter the raffle were handed out to the winners of each game.
With games spread out in different rooms and areas, students could come and go as they pleased, making the night feel more relaxed than a typical dance.
“I think this event was a success for the first time ever,” said senior Daisy Risden, a member of ASB who helped organize the event. “It had a pretty good turnout—it was small, but I think that’s what also made it great, because people who normally don’t come to dances came to this event.”
ASB Advisor Laura Larson agreed.
“Although it wasn’t the same as Blacklight, that was kind of the point,” she said. “It offered something different and more relaxed, more interactive, and still a lot of fun.”
Despite being a brand-new event, Game Night came together quickly. “This setup was definitely the easiest one we’ve had all year,” Risden said. “The people who brought their systems set it up very quickly and the teachers who let us use their rooms made it easier. Definitely the quickest setup and cleanup I’ve done—it all got done in under 45 minutes.”
As for the future of Game Night?
“I hope it continues next year,” said junior Layla Goebal. “I think BHS needs more relaxed events like this.”
From the chill atmosphere to the variety of activities, Game Night brought a new kind of energy to Burroughs—and it might just be here to stay.
