Throughout the cinema lovers community, a debate has been sparked by a comparison and battle between two of the greatest movies of all time, “Interstellar” and “Dune 2.” This debate has sparked a clash between the two fan bases fighting for which movie they believe reigns supreme. “Interstellar” is an astonishingly beautiful and well-shot film by Christopher Nolan. It follows actor Matthew McConaughey as an astronaut looking to save the human race by finding a new habitable planet. “Dune 2” is a complex and contrasting story about Paul Atreides, a messiah for the Fremen people of Arrakis whose presence causes a holy war throughout the world.
Junior Mo Kimbler sees Nolan’s film as the superior one.
“The film “Interstellar” grasps imaginative yet physical concepts, combined with surreal visuals and acting, to create one of the most stunning performances of a film,” said Kimbler. “The Dune series, while visually a masterpiece, progresses at a pace that makes it unbearable to enjoy, making it the lesser choice to a movie enjoyer like myself.”
Devout Dune fanes like junior Victor Gonzalez would disagree with Kimbler’s choice.
“In my opinion, I prefer “Dune” because of its projection of characters, themes, and ecology,” said Gonzalez. “As for “Interstellar,” I really enjoyed the way it grasped complex concepts like black holes and relativity.”
The point can be made that either has a superior storytelling and visual aspect; however, an aspect that has also sparked debate is the casting.
While both have amazingly talented directors and visuals, the casts of the two films are unbelievably stacked with huge stars like Timothee Chalamet and Anne Hathaway.
Junior Patrick Boggs praised “Intersteller” for its relatability. Even though it’s science fiction, he sees it as “a far more likely future” than that of “Dune.”
“While Dune 2 had more action and thrill behind it, “Interstellar” not only develops emotions but connects to the viewer through family,” said Boggs.
Both films are available to stream now.
