While Heart Club is new this fall, the organization is not holding back in its community service efforts.
For its most recent initiative, the club has made fleece blankets for the Bella Sera skilled nursing facility.
Proving the statement “many hands make light work,” 21 members came to blanket-making work parties on Thursday, Dec. 5, with similar turnouts on Dec. 12 and 13. Fleece was used for material. Members worked together in small groups, cutting pieces of fleece to layer on top of each other. Strips were then cut out from the edges and tied together by applying knots.
The blanket-making project aligns with the club’s purpose, as the blankets will bring a smile to residents’ faces and help them stay cozy in the chilly weather.
“Heart Club is all about giving back to the community and keeping everyone happy and healthy,” said Heart Club President and co-founder Nathalia Guevara, a junior.
This is the first of many service projects to come for Heart Club. The officer board is keeping a lookout for volunteer work at the Ridgecrest Regional Hospital, assisting medical professionals or patients. The club hosted a bake sale at Albertsons last month on Nov. 16 to raise money for the hospital and research efforts.
