Students interested in learning a new skill and gaining new friends have a new option right at their fingertips with the newly-established Crochet Club.
Seniors Abrienna Esslinger and Kayella Crandall collaborated with social studies teacher Kellyanne Godinez to create this fun, new club.
“I was pleasantly surprised at the number of students we had at our first meeting!” Godinez said. “Everyone was enthusiastic to get started, and I was impressed by our more experienced students’ desire to help teach their peers. That has definitely been my favorite part of the club.”
Students with all sorts of different crocheting skills are joining, from experts to newbies.
Crocheting allows students to think more creatively and let out their artistic sides at school and gives them a fun way to express themselves among peers with similar interests.
“I like how people are joining who have zero experience crocheting, and others who are more skilled at it,” said Crandall. She said she loves to make small, stuffed animals and has been crocheting for a little less than a year now.
While the club is great for artistic expression and creating new friendships, it can also be a great place for students to come to let loose and relax during and after school.
Crocheting is a relatively new hobby for the other club founder, who said she is looking to share her newfound joy with others.
“Crocheting for fun really helps to reduce stress from school and other things,” said Esslinger.
The club meets in L34 on Fridays.
