BHS Robotics had their first league matches at Frontier High School in Bakersfield on Saturday, Oct. 19. Of the four teams, two placed in the top three, and another is in the top ten.
Team 7422S performed the best out of the four teams, ranking second. They averaged 27 points per match, which is very high considering that this year’s game is a very low-scoring game. They are very happy with how they performed — they did not lose a single match — but are planning on improving their robot with a new drivetrain base, so they can be faster and more agile.
Team 7422C also did very well, ranking third after not losing any of their matches. They averaged about 21 points per match, similar to team S, and again a pretty good average for this year’s game. They are also very happy with how they did in their matches.
“4 and 0!” enthused 7422C Team Captain John Baronowski. “I really want to keep our win streak going.”
Similar to team 7422S, team 7422C is also going to update their drivetrain. They are going to change their shafts to screw joints so they have less friction between the wheel and the metal frame.
Team 7422B, also known as the freshman team, is ranked sixth after winning three out of its four matches.
“For our first competition we did pretty good, but we can always improve,” said Angel Valiente. Their plan to improve their robot is also similar to the other teams’; however, instead of remaking their entire drivetrain, they are going to change their motors from green to blue to make their motors faster. They are also going to upgrade their intake to make it easier to score points.
Team 7422H took 20th place. Afterwards, they said they have a lot of ideas on how to improve their robot by redesigning their base, their intake, and their scoring design.
The next round of qualifying matches is on Nov. 9.
