“Your vote counts.”
It’s the very principle of our democracy, a principle that Americans have abided by since the founding of our nation in order to elect political candidates.
With the 2024 Presidential election rapidly approaching, eligible BHS student voters are eager to make their vote count by casting their ballot for the candidate that they believe will best lead our country moving forward.
To legally vote, a person must be a U.S. Citizen who is 18 years or older, so only a handful of students are eligible. However, the ones who are are very vocal and ready to let their voice be heard.
“Voting is important because it allows people to have a say in what will happen in our country,” said Senior Daisy Risden, who plans to cast her vote for the first time this November. “I’m educating myself on each candidate’s policies and opinions so I make the right choice.”
The future of the nation is in the hands of the people, including BHS students. Crazy, right? We asked student voters what issues they value most.
“Some issues that are most important to me are women’s healthcare and the addiction epidemic,” said Risden. “Women’s healthcare should be accessible to all without restrictions or consequences. Healthcare is a right and shouldn’t have to be debated.”
Senior Dakoda Catlin is concerned about how the nation’s leaders prioritize funding for key projects.
“I think the most important thing for our country is funds,” Catlin explained. “Funds should be going to the right things, like natural disaster relief or homelessness.”
